Writing Coaching

We help students build confidence and skill in academic writing across all subjects and grade levels, including literary analysis essays, history research papers, and argumentative essays.
Through focused feedback and iterative writing practice, students learn how to approach prompts and develop strong thesis statements that guide their writing from the start. They also learn how to organize their ideas into well-structured paragraphs, beginning with outlining to map out their arguments before drafting. We work on writing strong topic sentences and using evidence effectively - choosing strong support, integrating it naturally, and explaining its relevance so that it clearly strengthens the argument.
Beyond writing mechanics, we emphasize developing an analytical mindset. Students learn to move beyond summary toward deeper interpretation, including identifying patterns, evaluating sources, and developing original, evidence-based insights.

Students work on short stories, personal essays, speculative fiction, poetry, and other narrative forms based on their interests, with a focus on developing original ideas and bringing them to life on the page.
We introduce a range of storytelling techniques to help students make their writing more vivid and engaging. This can include concepts such as “show, not tell,” where students learn to replace general statements with sensory detail, specific and active verbs, strong descriptive language, and figurative language. Students may also work on narrative elements like pacing, structure, and dialogue, learning how these choices shape tension and emotional impact.
The goal is to help students develop greater control over their storytelling, so they can make deliberate choices that strengthen their voice and bring greater clarity and impact to their writing.
-
We support students preparing submissions for writing competitions and summer programs, such as the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
These experiences can be a fun way for students to try out different kinds of writing outside the usual classroom assignments, where there is often more room for creativity, experimentation, and personal expression. Working toward a submission gives students a clear goal to build toward, while also encouraging them to take risks with ideas, voice, and style.
We help students choose strong ideas, develop them into complete pieces, and refine their work through revision. Throughout the process, students are encouraged to build confidence in their own writing choices.
-
We support students with summer program applications, helping them craft standout essays that are clear and thoughtfully written. Because many of these programs are highly competitive, strong writing can play a key role in how students present themselves and distinguish their applications.
We work with students to develop focused responses that highlight their interests, experiences, and goals in a way that best reflects their strengths and motivations, ensuring their ideas come across with clarity.
